In the context of the projects described in this website, there is a very large group of people working on Core-Log-Seismic Integration (CLSI) projects. We are keen to foster connections between individuals and institutes who also see the great potential in CLSI methods. Please reach out to any member of our coordination team to discuss possible collaborations and projects.

Gareth Crutchley is a marine geologist at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. Gareth completed his BSc(hons) in Geology and his PhD at the University of Otago, New Zealand. After commencing his PhD in 2009, Gareth worked for four years as a postdoctoral researcher at GEOMAR (2009-2013), before joining GNS Science in New Zealand (2013-2019), and then returning to GEOMAR (2019-present). Gareth’s research interests include active tectonics, submarine landslides, gas hydrates, and fluid flow in marine sediments. His recent research is focused around the integration of borehole logging data with high-resolution marine 3D seismic data.

Christian Berndt is Head of the Department of Marine Geodynamics at GEOMAR and professor of marine geophysics at Kiel University. He holds a MSc in geophysics from Kiel University and a PhD from University of Oslo. Christian has used geophysical and geochemical data to study fluid migration in sedimentary basins, the environmental consequences of sediment-magma interactions, and marine volcanism. He was involved in the development of high-resolution 3D seismic methods (P-Cable technology) and applied them together with scientific drilling on numerous marine expeditions.

Ulrich Harms (Uli) leads the Operational Support Group of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program, ICDP, at the GFZ in Potsdam, Germany. Uli holds a MSc degree in Mineralogy from Kiel University and a PhD in Geochemistry/Geochronology from the Technical University of Berlin. He is working group leader in the section Geomechanics and Scientific Drilling of the GFZ, leads the German Scientific Earth Probing Consortium GESEP, and is co-founder and editor of the journal Scientific Drilling. He is an expert in scientific drilling and is involved in instrument development with a focus on downhole tools.

Simona Pierdominici is a scientist at the GFZ in Potsdam, Germany and member of the Operational Support Group of the ICDP. Simona holds a PhD in Geophysics from Bologna University, Italy. Currently she works on downhole logging data interpretation from scientific drilling projects. Her research focuses on physical properties of rocks, present-day stress fields and geological structures from borehole and drill core data. She is the project leader of two DFG projects, including one based on core-log-seismic integration: "Core-Log Seismic Integration in hard rock environments using the ICDP drilling project COSC-1, Sweden".

Karsten Gohl is a geophysicist and currently Deputy Head of the Geophysics Section of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz-Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven, Germany. Karsten received his Diplom (Master) in Geophysics from University of Hamburg, Germany, in 1987, and his PhD in Geophysics from University of Wyoming, USA, in 1991. During a one-year postdoc at University of Uppsala, Sweden, he continued working on deep crustal seismic imaging of cratons before he commenced a Research Scientist position at the AWI in 1992. At AWI, he first worked on crustal and sedimentation processes of Antarctic margins using marine geophysical methods. After leaving AWI for a position as Lecturer in Geophysics at Macquarie University, Australia, from 1996 to 1999, he returned to AWI as Senior Scientist where he has been conducting research on geodynamic, tectonic and glacial-marine sedimentation processes of polar and sub-polar regions.
